Cascades, valley views & evening light

Katoomba Falls & Cascades

Katoomba Falls, Katoomba Cascades and the Night-lit Walk are connected by the local landscape, but they are not interchangeable itinerary promises. Check whether your tour offers a cascade stop, an elevated view or time on foot.

Understand the different views

The cascades offer a close view of water moving through rocks and vegetation. The larger falls are also seen from elevated viewpoints and the Scenic World area. A ride above the valley gives a different experience from walking beside a cascade. Wine Hop And Coastal Tours explicitly names a Katoomba Cascades stop, making it the clearest match here for that particular visit.

The Night-lit Walk

Blue Mountains City Council describes a 1.5-kilometre illuminated walk taking in features including Orphan Rock, Witches Leap, Katoomba Falls and the Cascades. The council reported its reopening after upgrades in July 2026. Its guidance says the lights switch off at 11pm and asks visitors to bring a reliable torch and non-slip shoes. Check the current council update before an evening visit, as precinct works continue.

Do not confuse illumination with glow worms

The Night-lit Walk uses installed lighting to reveal landscape features. A glow-worm excursion seeks living organisms in a dark habitat and follows different lighting rules. Wildscape’s night adventure describes a forest cave; it does not identify the Night-lit Walk as its destination. Choose the experience you actually want, and avoid assuming a daytime tour stays until the lights come on.

Fitting the falls into your day

For a first visit, compare a cascade stop plus rides with an itinerary built around longer walking at Wentworth Falls. Doing both independently takes more planning than simply moving between nearby map pins. If staying overnight in Katoomba, an evening walk can be a separate activity; if returning to Sydney on a guided tour, the operator’s scheduled return takes priority.

Questions, answered

A few things worth knowing

Does a Scenic World tour include the Night-lit Walk?

Not automatically. None of these Scenic World packages promises the council’s evening walk as an included activity.

Is Katoomba Cascades the same as Wentworth Falls?

No. They are different places. The itinerary needs to name the stop you want, rather than simply mentioning waterfalls.
