The iconic lookout

Three Sisters & Echo Point

The classic Blue Mountains view: three sandstone formations above the forested Jamison Valley. Echo Point is the place to start if you want the panorama without committing to a long bushwalk.

The lookout and the walk are different visits

Echo Point offers the broad view of the Three Sisters, the valley and distant landforms. The adjoining Three Sisters walk is a separate outing: NSW National Parks lists it as 800 metres return, taking about 25–45 minutes. Its main concrete path is graded easy, although some lookout detours have steps. A quick coach stop does not necessarily include the full walk, the Giant Stairway or access onto Honeymoon Bridge.

A landscape with cultural significance

The Three Sisters stand on the Country of Gundungurra and Darug peoples and form part of a declared Aboriginal Place. Different versions of their story are told; treat local interpretation with respect rather than assuming a single visitor retelling is definitive. Stay on the permitted paths and behind barriers, including when looking for a photograph.

Choosing a tour stop

Anderson’s and Diamond Tours combine the Three Sisters with rides and wildlife, while Coast Warriors pairs the viewpoint with a more active waterfall walk. Choose the surrounding itinerary rather than paying simply for the familiar photograph. A late-afternoon visit may offer different light, but no departure time guarantees a clear valley: fog can hide the formations.

Practical visiting details

Echo Point has toilets and nearby parking; council fees and time limits may apply. Weekend parking can be busy. Check current access before planning additional walks, and do not build a tight schedule around an unconfirmed bridge or stairway opening. For independent travel, use the official journey planner to work out the connection from Katoomba Station.

Tours to consider

Questions, answered

A few things worth knowing

Do I need Scenic World entry to see the Three Sisters?

No. Echo Point is a separate lookout. Scenic World admission covers its rides and boardwalk experience, not access to the public Echo Point view.

Does every tour include the Three Sisters walk?

No. A Three Sisters photo stop can mean only the lookout. Check the itinerary if you want the full walk or any additional stairway route.
